Over the last couple of months five Rising Aviation High School students have been working on a Vans RV-12.
We have been making good progress as we work Monday through Friday for an hour and a half each day. We recently finished the fairings on the stabilator and closed up the tail cone.
After we finished that we brought the wing kit from the hangar over to the shop.
Before we took everything out we decided that our room needed to be reorganized and reconfigured to fit the length of the wings. That will definitely not be the last time we move everything around.
We then began on the wings and preparing the leading edge spar and where the ribs will go.
Unfortunately, we did not get much done after that because then we had finals and we are enjoying our Christmas break.
Besides building the plane we have learned valuable things such as teamwork, communication, friendships, and troubleshooting.
We have managed to turn our build time into more than a job or hobby. We all continue to improve our techniques and skills by learning from each other and learning from mistakes.
One of my favorite things is how when we ask a question about a problem our teacher, Mr. Miller, will tell us: “You tell me.”
This has helped me and many other students not just find out problems but learn and know how to solve the problem in the future.
Now that this semester is over and we have accomplished and grown so much as students, I am excited to see how the next semester can be even better.
